Fundraiser
The Take Flight Triathlon Festival and Family Fun Day benefit will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday at the NOMAD Aquatic Center, 11202 Harris Road, Huntersville.
The race will include a 250-yard swim, a 10-mile bike ride and 5-kilometer run. It is open to first-timers and experienced triathletes. Registration to new athletes has closed, but there is a waiting list. Call 704-949-1555 for details.
There also will be music and family activities for spectators.
The event will be held in honor of 2-year-old Garrett Campbell, who died from Batten disease, a disorder of the nervous system. Garrett's family created Garrett's Wings in his honor and will host the triathlon fundraiser.

Greater Charlotte
Central Piedmont Community College's Free College Day will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.
Participants can attend free one-hour classes at CPCC's Levine and North campuses. Music, arts, door prizes and campus tours also are planned, as well as information about degree programs, continuing education and personal interest courses.

Clanton Park
A grand-opening celebration for Phase II of Clanton Park will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday, near the new 4,500-square-foot indoor community pavilion, 3132 Manchester Road.
The park also has two new soccer fields, a playground, parking and renovations to the existing softball field.
The opening of a half-mile section of Irwin Creek Greenway, which runs through the park, also will be celebrated. Residents are invited to ride bikes along it.
Pumpkin patch
Hodges Dairy Farm and Pumpkin Patch will be open from 9 a.m. until dark daily through Oct. 31.
People can pick pumpkins in a 10-acre patch. Pony rides will be offered from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. There will be a maze, a bounce house and barnyard animals. Haunted Hayrides will run from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Oct. 24-25 and Oct. 31 at $12 each.

Johnson C. Smith University's 100 Club athletic booster group invites the public to two fundraisers Oct. 24.
The 11th annual golf tournament will be at Birkdale Golf Club in Huntersville, with registration at 7 a.m., breakfast at 8 and tournament play at 9. Details/registration: 704-578-8437.
The second annual Gold and Blue Meet & Greet, honoring JCSU Hall of Fame athletes, will be 9 p.m.-2 a.m. at the Hilton Charlotte Center City , 222 E. Third St., with a free buffet and a disc jockey.
