Rock Hill teens accused of damaging mailboxes with golf club, baseball bat
Two teenagers were arrested for allegedly damaging several mailboxes with a golf club and a baseball bat, according to a Rock Hill Police report.
On Friday morning, Rock Hill Police were dispatched to a Belle Chase Drive home about unknown suspects damaging six mailboxes on Belle Chase Drive and Aldersgate Road. While checking the neighborhood, police stopped a white Lexus sedan for not using a turn signal, a police report states.
The driver, Jason Dallas McCracken, 17, and the passenger, Spencer Williams, 18, as well as a 14-year-old male, told police they were riding to McCracken’s house. McCracken said they were taking a shortcut through the neighborhood, but Williams said they weren’t. McCracken reportedly denied damaging any mailboxes.
McCracken and his parents refused to let police to search the vehicle, the report states. However, police searched the vehicle based on the location of the vehicle in relation to the damaged mailboxes, the time of night, and the conflicting stories.
Inside the trunk was a 7 iron golf club and an aluminum baseball bat. McCracken said he “goes over to his girlfriend’s house and hits golf balls,” he told police.
Upon examining the golf club and baseball bat, officer observed fresh metal shavings on the neck of the club head, as well as fresh paint transfer streaks and flakes on both the golf club and the baseball bat, the report states.
Based on the discovery of the items, and the fresh metal shavings and paint transfer, police placed McCracken, Williams and the minor under arrest and charged with six counts of damage for personal property. McCracken told police he picked Williams and the minor up and did not know what they had been up to. Williams denied any involvement.
McCracken and Williams were both held at the Rock Hill jail on a $12,000 bond.
After his mother arrived, the 14-year-old admitted to his involvement in the incident.
