Puppy Labeled ‘Runt of the Litter,' No One Picked Her-Then Comes a Twist
A puppy once dismissed as the "runt of the litter" is now capturing hearts online, thanks to a viral TikTok video that has resonated with thousands of viewers.
Shared on Saturday by TikTok user @dotty.boxer, the emotional clip tells the story of a white boxer dog who was reportedly overlooked because of her size. Instead of being chosen first, she was labeled the runt of the litter and overlooked by everyone. But as the video reveals, that label ended up meaning very little.
"We were told she was the runt of the litter… The smallest one… The one nobody picked first… But to us… She's the opposite of small… She's everything," the text overlay in the video explains.
Those words play over a series of heartwarming moments showing the puppy thriving in her new home. In the background footage, the dog is seen soaking up affection from her owners, running freely across the beach, and clearly enjoying life with the family who chose her.
Rather than focusing on what she supposedly lacked, the video highlights what she gained-a home where she is cherished. The message is reinforced in the caption, which reads: "The runt of the litter… the biggest part of our hearts."
A runt of the litter is the smallest and often weakest puppy born in a litter, usually due to receiving fewer nutrients before birth. Rover explains that this doesn't automatically mean poor health, in fact, many runts grow normally with proper care.
Early challenges can include difficulty competing for food and maintaining body temperature, so extra attention, feeding support, and monitoring are often needed. Mothers may sometimes neglect smaller offspring, making human intervention important in certain cases.
Runts are not always sickly or destined to stay small. With attentive care, they can catch up to their siblings and live healthy lives.
The simple but powerful sentiment has struck a chord with viewers. Since being posted, the video has quickly gone viral on TikTok, amassing more than 168,600 views and 22,700 likes.
One user, Lea.mendes_, commented: "I also have a white boxer; nobody wanted the white ones… even though they're such wonderful beings, no matter what color."
Hana_Banana_8888 said: "Please tell her she’s emotionally blackmailing me and I DON’T MIND."
Kim Louise756 added: "The runts are the best in my opinion. she is beautiful and thank you for choosing her."
