DJ's ‘day rave' rocks center for older people
This heartwarming footage shows a top DJ performing a "day rave" - at a center for older people.
DJ AG - real name Ashley Gordon - has amassed a huge online following through livestreamed public performances across the U.K.
He has previously performed alongside stars including Ed Sheeran and Idris Elba - but recently led one of his signature karaoke-style singalong sessions for participants at the Ann Owens Center run by Age UK Barnet in East Finchley, North London, England.
The session evolved into an afternoon of anthems and antics, with a dance tutor guiding participants through energetic moves as attendees sang along to a mix of crowd-pleasing hits.
Video shows people dancing, smiling and waving pom-poms.
London-based DJ AG, who gave his time for free, said, "I've performed on streets all over the world, but walking into that room was something really special.
"These guys were right up there with the best crowds I've played to - giving it absolutely everything.
"Music brings people together whatever your age, and the OGs at the center proved that 10 times over.
"Seeing everyone getting properly stuck in, jumping around and singing along, made it unforgettable.
"I'd do this every week if I could, and I'm excited to bring my music back to the Barnet area for AG Fest in July."
Among those showing off their moves was 84-year-old Helen, who said it was her first time ever on a dance floor - and "well worth the wait."
Another participant, Lenny, 84, from Mill Hill, said, "I wasn't sure what to expect when they told us a DJ was coming in - especially when they said it would be livestreamed!
"But it turned out to be an amazing afternoon - I'm not a natural dancer but they made it easy to feel included. I loved singing and dancing along with everyone - it brought back memories of my youth!
"This human connection really lifted us all - bringing color and joy to these challenging times. A huge thank you to the Omaze community for making days like this possible.
"I always look forward to the events that Age UK Barnet puts on - they help me enjoy later life so much more than I ever thought I could.
"I'm incredibly grateful and actually feel positive about the future."
Age UK Barnet is one of over 100 organizations in Age UK's network to have benefited from a £5.25 million donation raised through the Omaze Million Pound House Draw in 2024 - the biggest ever raise for a charity partner in Omaze's history - which has enabled Age UK to deliver over 10 million minutes of vital friendship, social activities and practical support to older people across the U.K.
Hannorah Lee, fundraising director, Age UK, said, "We're always looking for new and creative ways to enable older people who use our services to get involved, have fun and keep active, and DJ AG delivered something really memorable.
"Seeing everyone singing, dancing and joining in together was fantastic.
"Events such as this are made possible thanks to the incredible generosity of the Omaze community and everyone who took part in the Million Pound House Draw in December 2024, which raised £5.25 million for Age UK, the biggest ever raise in Omaze's history.
"That funding has enabled us to deliver over 10 million minutes of vital friendship, activities and support to older people across the country who need us most."
Matt Pohlson, founder and CEO of Omaze, said, "Seeing DJ AG bring so much joy to the people at Age UK Barnet is exactly the kind of impact we hoped our partnership with Age UK would have.
"When people enter our draws to win life-changing prizes, they're also supporting incredible charities, helping them to change the lives of the people they help.
"Thanks to the generosity of the Omaze community, we've now raised over £100 million for good causes across the U.K."
