Bike Owner Can't Believe What a Stranger Has Tied to the Center Bar
A cyclist was left baffled after returning to their bike to discover a mysterious surprise tied to the center bar.
The photo, which quickly went viral on Reddit, shows a close‑up of a blue bicycle frame with a plastic bag knotted securely around it, racking up 23,000 upvotes in less than 24 hours.
The April 19 post shared by user MyUsernameIsNotCool, the post was titled: "Someone tied a plastic bag with blueberries in it, on my bicycle today."
According to Statista, as of September 2024, 17 percent of U.S. consumers aged 18 to 29 cycle, with the same percentage reported among those aged 30 to 49. Cycling remains a popular low‑impact exercise option, especially in urban areas.
Newsweek previously spoke with Willie Swift, a performance physiologist at Human Powered Health in Boston, Massachusetts, who described cycling and walking as "low-impact activities that can have a great impact on your physical and mental health," adding that most people would benefit from incorporating both into their routine.
Pairing cycling with a healthy snack-like the blueberries left on the bike-aligns with expert advice on nutrition and recovery.
Newsweek has previously spoken with registered dietitian nutritionist Sarah Keathley of Top Nutrition Coaching, who explained why berries are among the healthiest fruits available.
"Berries rank highest on the list for healthiest fruits to consume on a regular basis," she said. "This is because they offer higher amounts of antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, and fiber than other fruits."
For a cyclist, a bag of blueberries is not only unexpected-it's genuinely useful fuel.
Reddit Reacts
The internet has been left guessing about the motive behind the blueberry delivery, with commenters offering theories ranging from the logical to the whimsical.
One user wrote: "I can only think of two possibilities: Someone didn’t want them to go to waste and thought tying them to someone’s bicycle as a gift was better than throwing them away for some reason. Or someone thought this was their bike, tied the blueberries, and when they realized it was the wrong bike, forgot their blueberries?"
Another joked: "You’ve been blessed by the Blueberry Fairy!"
A third suggested: "It’s because your bike is blue."
A fourth added: "It is probably a gift from someone you know who decided to awkwardly tie it to your bike instead of handing it to you like a normal person. Or it’s a gift from somebody you don’t know doing a random act of kindness. Either way, I’d wash them and eat them."
Newsweek reached out to u/MyUsernameIsNotCool for comment. We could not verify the details of the case.
