Just about everyone would rather spend time with a baby animal than go to work, but for one person, this dream became a reality. Elsie, who goes by @elsie2937 on social media, was on her way to clock in at her job when something much more important caught her attention. It was a baby fox, all by himself on the sidewalk!

Although several fox species make themselves at home in the suburbs and the city, spotting a baby wandering around alone can be cause for concern. Once Elsie saw there was no mama fox around, she wasted no time calling for help and keeping the baby safe until help arrived. Thanks to her, the tiny fox, whom experts confirmed had been abandoned or lost by his mom, got the life-saving help he needed to survive.

That sweet fox is just a little baby! He looked about the size of Elsie's hand, and he seemed desperate for comfort and warmth. Given how tiny he is, and how he didn't hesitate to interact with humans, Elsie was right to be concerned!

Hundreds of commenters chimed in with praise for Elsie's selfless actions, but it's also heartbreaking to think of how many people passed this fox kit by without a second thought. As the animal rescuer explained in a reply to a comment, "As someone who is studying in animal care and management, I feel like I had to do something as no one would." It only takes one person with a big heart to change an animal's life, and this is the perfect example.

Even though this fox is a wild animal, viewers like @jamieleefox4 saw him act like a puppy with his new human friend. "He put his paws up," they commented. "He wanted uppies!" He really did! Luckily, Elsie held him close until help arrived.

This poor baby was so desperate for a cuddle, it hardly mattered who it came from! When help arrived, they confirmed the fox kit was injured and hungry, which meant Mom hadn't been around in a long time. Clearly, whisking him away to a rescue was the best choice!

"I last heard that he has made fox friends at the center, and is doing well!" Elsie told a commenter. That's a huge relief!

I Found a Baby Fox

Elsie's plan of action became clear as soon as she noticed that the baby animal was injured and unwell, but spotting a baby fox in the city isn't automatically cause for concern. As the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine explains, fox kits are often left unsupervised while their parents hunt for food. They may even leave their dens to play or accompany Mom and Dad on their first hunting trips.

However, if a baby fox appears sick, injured, or has trouble moving, contacting a wildlife rehabilitator is a good idea. Grabbing the fox should be a last resort, but if it's necessary, gloves, a towel, and a sturdy box should be utilized to minimize the risk of bites and scratches.

As Elsie's story proves, it only takes a few minutes of kindness to save an animal's life. Thankfully, there are so many people like Elsie in the world who wouldn't waste a single second.
