Devil May Cry Season 2 Returns to Netflix on May 12 with Bigger Action and Thrills
An action series that features characters and stories that fans have loved for more than two decades is set to return to Netflix in three days. After a hiatus of more than a year, Devil May Cry will soon return with all-new episodes.
‘Devil May Cry' Season 2 Premieres on Netflix May 12, 2026
The eight-episode second season of the animated series Devil May Cry will premiere on Netflix on May 12, 2026. That will mark the first time the show will return to the streaming service with new episodes since its first season debuted on April 3, 2025.
Based on the beloved Capcom video game franchise of the same name, the show became an immediate hit as it debuted in the Top 10 with 5.3 million views in just three days. In fact, it was renewed for a second season one week after the series initially premiered and earned a 96% Rotten Tomatoes score from critics. On top of that, the show was credited with making the Devil May Cry video games more successful at the time. In April 2025, it was reported that games from the series on Steam got "a boost of up to 20 times the player count."
What to Expect From 'Devil May Cry' Season 2 - More Action
In March 2026, the creator of the Devil May Cry TV series, Adi Shankar, spoke to IGN about what fans can expect when the series returns. He painted an exciting picture of what is to come. For example, he compared the difference between the first and second seasons to how The Dark Knight was a leap forward from Batman Begins.
"Season 2 is just way, way, way bigger in terms of scope and scale. So it's the difference between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. That's the comp. Or Halo 1 and Halo 2, where, in terms of just scale and scope, orders of magnitude bigger and larger. And the tone is just completely different on top of that. The tone is very, very different, so it cuts deeper."
He also went on to detail how much action the soon-to-premiere episodes will feature. Based on Shankar's statement, Devil May Cry Season 2 will be intense and reference many classic action scenes from movie history. The show's creator also explained that he hopes that fans will be thrilled in ways that will leave them pointing at the screen like the famous Leonardo DiCaprio meme.
"It's full of it. Because, dude, before I was doing this, I was a producer of action movies, and I really dove into that genre, and I tried to understand it as well as I could and became a student of the genre. So for me, it's all about having homages to what came before. And, yeah, so Season 2 is full of stuff like that. Now, again, it's not The Raid, but if you are a fan of the action movie genre or you're a fan of Hong Kong cinema, you're going to be doing the DiCaprio meme where you're pointing at the TV."
