Why Netflix is Removing 'Blindspot' After Its Popularity Surge

Over the years, we've seen countless examples of the "Netflix Effect" resulting in a surge of popularity for a particular show, actor or subject matter. Such has been the case with Blindspot, a crime drama which originally aired on NBC from 2015-20 and has been a "ratings juggernaut" since debuting on Netflix in June 2025.

Despite the streaming success of the Martin Gero-created series, Netflix is still removing Blindspot from its library on June 7, reports What's on Netflix. It may seem like a curious decision, but the reasoning is clear-cut.

Why is Blindspot leaving Netflix in June?

Netflix only had a one-year licensing agreement with Blindspot, which is typical for Warner Bros. Television shows, writes What's on Netflix's Kasey Moore.

"This strict one-year window is becoming the new normal for high-profile licensed shows, as competing studios look to reap the benefits of a massive Netflix viewership bump before clawing their properties back to their own native streaming services," Moore said.

Blindspot arrived on Netflix for the first time on June 7, 2025, which is why June 6, 2026 is the final day to stream it. All five seasons and 100 episodes of the series will disappear from the platform the following day.

While part of the Netflix lineup, Blindspot has picked up nearly 350 million viewing hours and spent 29 days on the Netflix US Top 10 TV chart.

What to know about Blindspot

Focusing on the FBI discovery of a mysterious naked, tattooed woman (played by Jaimie Alexander) inside a bag in New York City, Blindspot also stars Sullivan Stapleton, Rob Brown, Audrey Esparza, Ashley Johnson and Ukweli Roach as FBI agents and operatives with Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Luke Mitchell, Michelle Hurd, Archie Panjabi, Ennis Esmer and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio also having major roles.

Blindspot earned a 7.3/10 rating on IMDB and a 65% approval on TV Guide. The show's first season is rated 68% on Rotten Tomatoes, where the consensus review says it is "elevated by an intriguing mystery and enough strong action to propel most viewers into a necessary suspension of disbelief."

In 2024, blogger Juha-Matti Santala wrote that Blindspot is "a great series that suffers from a pacing issue."
