'Severance' Season 3 is Coming Sooner Than You Think

Fans waited a long time between the first season of the hit Apple TV show Severance and the second. With season 2 ending on a major cliffhanger, fans were undoubtedly concerned about just how long they would have to wait for season 3. However, it sounds like the wait won't be nearly as long.

As fans await the highly anticipated third season of the hit show, star and executive producer Adam Scott has promised fans that the wait will not be nearly as long as last time.

'Sooner Than Last Round'

During an interview on the red carpet at the BAFTA TV Awards this weekend, Scott was asked about the status of the third season of the show.

"We're always trying to shorten the amount of time between seasons, but it's more important for it to be great than for it to be fast," Scott told Deadline. "We're definitely planning on getting it out much sooner than the last round, which was three years, which is too long."

Scott, who serves as both a star in the show as well as an executive producer, said that filming would begin "very soon," but he would not give any details about the plot of the upcoming season.

"The only thing about telling more is it would be a bummer," he said.

Why Season 2 Took So Long

Fans waited for about three years between the release of the first season of the hit show and the second, but that was due to some special circumstances.

For starters, the creators and studio did not know how much of a success the first season of the show would be and, like most new shows, had not immediately started production on a second season when the first season premiered.

Making matters worse, production of the second season was delayed by the overlapping strikes from the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the Screen Actors Guild (SAG). The WGA Strike lasted from May 2, 2023, until Sept. 27, 2023. The SAG strike lasted from July 14, 2023, until Nov. 9, 2023.

"We got hit with the strike in the middle, and it takes a little while," producer Ben Stiller said on the Today Show last year. "I'm so happy we're back and that the fans stuck with us from the first season."

While there is still no timeline for when season 3 could premiere, Stiller has assured fans on numerous occasions that they would not have to wait three years between seasons this time around.

"No, no, the plan is not - definitely not," Stiller said on the "New Heights" podcast last year. "No, the plan is not, and hopefully, we'll be announcing what the plan is very soon. That will not be that."
