Left Alone Outside, a Sweet Bulldog's Emotional Reaction To Being Loved Is Moving Thousands
Some dogs grow up never knowing the love of a human. It's heartbreaking to watch, but it brings out even more joy when they finally find their people. Wilma, the Bulldog, was dumped outside and suffers from pretty significant medical challenges. But she's ready to give all her affection to the right family.
NAWS, a no-kill humane society near Chicago, rescued Wilma and will be caring for her while she recovers enough to be adoptable. The on-screen text tells us more of her story, including that she's had multiple litters. Little Wilma is just 2 years old, but her puppyhood was stolen from her, so she's making up for lost time by playing with toys and getting scritches.

How To Care for Neglected Rescue Dogs
All dogs need special care when they first move into a new house, but that's doubly true for rescued animals. Pups like Wilma have been through a lot and may struggle to adapt to their new life. Some rescues don't like to be touched, others try to run and hide, or some may show signs of aggression.
Wilma, like many, has extra medical needs that require more work in the early days. While it represents a big commitment, this gives the new pet parent an opportunity to show care. Part of bonding with an abused or neglected pooch is providing for basic needs regularly. Pups learn to relax into their new normal by getting two square meals a day, numerous walks, and lots of pats.
