Will Cal Return in 'Marshals' Season 2? Logan Marshall-Green Sounds Off
Next to Kayce Dutton, the other major lead actor of the hit Yellowstonespinoff is Pete Calvin, better known as "Cal." Played by Logan Marshall-Green, Cal has been the rock of the Marshals, leading the team with humility and down-to-earth practicality. Cal's demons have also plagued him throughout Season 1, from trying to reconnect with his daughter to his guilt over the death of Roner when he, Kayce, and Garrett were all Navy SEALS together. On top of all of this, going into the finale, we know that Cal has been diagnosed with cancer, and one pivotal scene in the final moments of Episode 13, "Wolves at the Door," will make you wonder if this Marshals hero will make it into Season 2 alive.
Men's Journal caught up with Marshall-Green to get a sense of what's next for Cal for Marshals Season 2. Here's what he told us. Spoilers ahead.
Cal's not dead in Marshals Season 2
As Kayce and Dolly get cozy on horseback, we find Cal and Belle (Arielle Kebbel) riding into battle, when they are suddenly ambushed. Guns blaze, and the camera cuts away. The attack seems to come from the same baddies pressuring Belle to pay off her gambling debts, but we don't actually see what happens to either Belle or Cal in the finale. It's a quick and brutal cliffhanger, but Marshall-Green confirms that he is back for Season 2.
"I'm definitely in the first episode [of Season 2] because we're about to shoot," Marshall-Green says. "I can't speak for the second episode. He's got a lot coming at him. If it's not estranged daughter, cancer, shotgun blasts, you name it. I think Cal is hopefully going to continue to have a fight both inward and outward."
Marshall-Green is keeping the exact plot points of Marshals Season 2 close to the vest at this point, and admits that he's not entirely sure what showrunner Spencer Hudnut has planned for the entire season. "Where we take it from there, I don't know. But I certainly know that I want to keep the stakes as high as possible."
Kayce and Cal's partnership is forever changed
Back in Episode 11, Cal learned of some of Kayce's dark secrets with the Dutton family, but Kayce also learned that Cal wasn't exactly responsible for Roner's death. So, as brothers-in-arms, Cal and Kayce share some secrets. They also took out the criminal Neil (Sterling Jones) and left his body on the mountain. So, what will their relationship actually be like going into Season 2?
"Obviously, they're now going to carry a secret forward about Neil," Marshall-Green says. "He is aware of who he is, who his family is, what they've done, and how he's gotten to where he is. By the time you get to these last two episodes, this is truly the brotherhood that they used to have. I don't think he even has a choice at this point to trust Kayce."
Marshals Season 1 streams on Paramount+. Season 2 is currently in production.
