Most people have a few unexpected wildlife encounters in life, but finding a possum in the house just might be a unique experience. Luckily, online entrepreneur @neishabeaveridge caught the special moment on camera, and now it's going viral.

On June 4, she shared a priceless video of a mama and baby possum in a cat bed after they'd snuck into her house. This adorable surprise took place in Wollongong, Australia, and it's safe to say that Australian possums are a bit different than the ones we see in North America. But just like their American cousins, these critters are pros at playing possum!

How cute are these two? The protective mama looked just as surprised to see people as they were to see her, which makes me wonder just how long she'd been there. She and the baby possum looked incredibly comfortable!

"It looks shocked that you're in your house," agreed commenter @radio_active_redhead. Clearly, she'd already decided to claim the house as her own, but she didn't put up a fight when she got evicted. Now, the adorable duo is living happily in Neish's yard, though I can only hope she put a cat bed outside so they can continue lounging in luxury.

As much as commenters like @serenecollins24 want to believe "Possums are domesticating themselves now," don't let their sweet faces fool you. Possums are wild animals! No matter how comfortable they get indoors, they should never learn to rely on humans for resources like food or shelter.

Australian possum v. American opossum

As many American commenters noticed, this is not the same type of possum seen in the US. Australia has the brushtail possum-like the cuties in this video-while North America has the versatile and resilient opossum.

Despite sharing similar names, the American opossum and Australian bushtail possum are entirely different marsupials. As the mom in this priceless video proved, though, both species are excellent at playing possum! Sometimes, freezing in place helps possums hide from danger, but other times, it just makes them easier to move.

This sweet wildlife interaction proves a little kindness goes a long way, whether it means moving an animal out of a busy street or helping a mom and baby find their way back outside. Thank you, Neish, for sharing this sweet moment!
