5 Highly Anticipated Titles Missing from Recent Gaming Showcases

Starting with Sony's State of Play on June 2 and ending with a Nintendo Direct on June 9, we saw dozens and dozens of games shown off this month. Some were initial announcements while others were extended looks or updated trailers. Although there was a ton of new stuff for gamers to sink their teeth into, there also were titles we were hoping to see but didn't. Here are five of the biggest omissions.

5) Grand Theft Auto VI

This was widely expected, and honestly, Rockstar doesn't need to do anything more to build up hype for its pending November launch of GTA VI. Still, the game has already been delayed twice, first from 2025 to May 2026, and then to the current Nov. 19, 2026. The most recent trailer was over a year ago. A third trailer is theoretically looming, but it would've been nice to see updated proof of life for the year's most anticipated release.

4) Tides of Annihilation

First announced last February with an expected 2026 launch, it's been a quiet year for Tides of Annihilation. That changed a bit late last month when a behind-the-scenes video was shown, which was followed by news of a hands-on event later this summer. Those are baby steps, though, and the fact that it didn't find its way into any of the gaming showcases all but guarantees it won't be coming out this year.

3) Judas

From BioShock creator Ken Levine, Judas was announced near the end of 2022. Nearly four years later, details remain sparse, and any belief that it could see a launch in 2026 is long gone. We haven't even received a developer log this year, much less new footage. At this point, it seems unlikely we'll see anything before The Game Awards in December.

2) Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra

There was some actual news surrounding Rise of Hydra recently with the release window being pushed back again, this time to "2027 at the earliest." While it's disheartening that we're now at two-plus years and counting since we've seen anything of substance, at least there was some reassurance that the project hasn't been canceled.

1) Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet

Given Naughty Dog's importance to Sony and its expanded mainstream profile courtesy of its HBO series The Last of Us, it boggles the mind how much the studio has vanished. The studio released The Last of Us Part II in June 2020. Six years later, all we've seen are a handful of ports for the PlayStation 5 and the announcement of Intergalactic. That was more than 18 months ago. We're reaching a point where it's fair to wonder if we'll even get an original Naughty Dog title for the PS5, or if we'll have to wait until the eventual PlayStation 6 for Intergalactic.
