Bad news for pierogi fans in Charlotte and Matthews
If you love authentic Polish food, your choices have gotten narrower in Charlotte with the closing of a small family-owned restaurant that had a big following.
Taste of Europe, owned by Agata and Michal Pryzak, quietly closed in October, posting a sign on the door to alert customers who came to the restaurant at 10915 Monroe Road, on the border between Matthews and Charlotte near N.C. 51. The phone number also has been disconnected.
Despite the name, Taste of Europe specialized in the food of one country: Poland. It was a popular spot for several varieties of pierogi, the small dumplings topped with onions. Agata Bargiel Pryzak based her recipes on ones that her great-grandmother brought from Poland.
