Celebrate N.C. wine at the Yadkin Valley Wine Festival
Feel like a day trip Saturday? The 14th annual Yadkin Valley Wine Festival is 11 a.m.-5 p.m. at Elkin Muncipal Park in Elkin, which is just a little over an hour north of Charlotte near Interstate 77. The festival showcases wine from almost 30 vineyards and wineries in the Yadkin Valley. Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the gate and include music from Blues DeVille and Carolina Soul Band. Get veggie with it
The vegetarian lifestyle will be on display for the fourth annual Charlotte VegFest, 2-7 p.m. Saturday at 1916 Commonwealth Ave. in Plaza Midwood. Expect food from local restaurants, local businesses showcasing their wares and speakers including authors Ginny Messina (“Vegan for Life”) and Victoria Moran (“The Good Karma Diet”). New classes at CPCC
The Charlotte Cooks classes at Central Piedmont Community College are hands-on classes aimed at home cooks. Most cost $50 to $125. The new schedule runs June 5-19 and includes nine subjects (cupcakes, wine tasting, tapas and more). There are cooking and baking camps for seventh- through 12th-graders, too.
