Charlotte restaurant had ‘heavily soiled’ fly trap from bugs in kitchen: Scores (Feb. 7)
A Charlotte-area restaurant received its second “C” grade from the Mecklenburg County Health Department for numerous health violations, including employees not using gloves when handling food.
▪ Alicia’s Kitchen (6301 South Blvd.) received a score of 75% during an inspection on Tuesday, Jan. 28.
Violations the restaurant was cited for include:
Employee touching food without gloves
Chicken and beans in hot holding below required temperature
Employee using wet dishes on prep table
Rusting shelves in near walk-in cooler
Date stickers on dishes
Cracked and missing tiles in kitchen
This the restaurant’s second consecutive “C” grade. Last month, the restaurant scored 77% after the inspector found packages of raw chicken dripping on cooked tamales in cooler, The Charlotte Observer previously reported.
Mecklenburg County sanitation scores
The Mecklenburg County sanitation grades database shows that at least 205 restaurant inspections were completed Jan. 31-Feb. 6.
▪ Most restaurants received an A grade, or a score of at least 90%.
▪ Four restaurants received a B grade, or a score of at least 80% but lower than 90%.
▪ Lam’s Kitchen (3016 Weddington Rd.) received a score of 88% during an inspection on Wednesday, Feb. 5.
The restaurant was in violation of 14 standards, including a “heavily soiled fly trap” in the kitchen and an employee preparing food without a hair restraint.
Some violations were corrected during the inspection.
The restaurant previously scored 94% in July 2024.
▪ Margaritas Mountain Island (3818 Corning Pl.) received a score of 88% during an inspection on Thursday, Feb. 6.
The restaurant was in violation of 16 standards, including wet dishes stacked as clean and raw chicken stored on top of raw beef.
Most violations were corrected during the inspection.
The restaurant previously scored 92% in October 2024.
▪ West End Tavern (2817 Rozzelles Ferry Rd.) received a score of 87% during an inspection on Monday, Feb. 3.
The restaurant was in violation of 9 standards, including unlabeled spray bottles and broken dish machine.
Most violations were corrected during the inspection.
The restaurant previously scored 92% in October 2024.
▪ Pho Van (5615 South Blvd.) received a score of 87.5% during an inspection on Friday, Jan. 31.
The restaurant was in violation of 14 standards, raw animal food stored above ready-to-eat protein and a broken ice machine.
Some violations were corrected during the inspection.
The restaurant previously scored 91% in October 2024.
▪ One restaurant (Alicia’s Kitchen, above) received a C grade, or a score of of at least 70% but lower than 80%.
