Charlotte restaurant had sewage overflowing onto the floor: Scores (May 16)

A west Charlotte restaurant received a “B” grade from the Mecklenburg County Health Department for numerous health violations, including the presence of insects and sewage water on the floor.

Reba’s Bar & Grill (2240 Camp Greene St. in Charlotte) received an 82% score during an inspection on Wednesday, May 14.

Inspectors cited the restaurant after they found ”flying pests in the kitchen area,” county documents show.

Other violations the restaurant was cited for include:

  • Employees washing hands for less than 20 seconds

  • No handwashing signs at any of the handwashing sinks

  • Raw ground turkey sausage and raw bacon stored over container with bologna, pepper jack cheese, hot dogs and other ready-to-eat items

  • Food debris on dishes stored as clean

  • Employee preparing food with no head covering

  • Shelving for dry storage in need of cleaning due to food spillage

  • Sewage water from a three-compartment sink being emptied into a drain/catch box with sewage overflowing onto the restaurant floor

This is the restaurant’s second “B” grade. The first one was in September 2016.

How to search NC restaurant inspection scores

Sanitation scores and their corresponding letter grades are used in North Carolina to assess restaurants’ adherence to rules and standards intended to mitigate and prevent the spread of food-borne illnesses.

You’ve likely seen sanitation grade cards at restaurants you’ve visited, and The News & Observer previously explained what those scores mean and how they’re calculated.

According to state law, permits are immediately revoked if a restaurant receives a score of less than 70%.
