Classes from farming to weight loss to dessert
Ready to start filling out that 2016 calendar? See if these classes work for you:
▪ ’16 Cuisine is a 13-week series on healthful culinary lifestyles at the CityKitch, 9545 Pinnacle Drive. Classes will be 6-9 p.m. Tuesdays starting Jan. 5, and range from $65 each to $650 for the series. The classes are for adults 18 and older. Details: 704-499-3046 or www.thecitykitch.com.
▪ If you’re not ready to give up the holiday treats, Cocoa Lab at the Ritz-Carlton Charlotte, 201 E. Trade St., just announced its new lineup: Magical Macarons, Jan. 16; Romantic Sweet Treats, Feb. 6; Favorites from The Punch Rooms, March 19; and Elegant Springtime Desserts, April 9. All classes are $100 and held from 8:30 a.m.-noon Saturdays. Details: 704-547-2244.
▪ If you’re interested in selling at a farmers market (or even if you already do), the N.C. Department of Agriculture will hold a panel discussion on the rules, including licensing, labeling and other regulations. It’s free and open to anyone who is interested in selling at a market or who helps to run a market. 6-8 p.m. Jan. 26 at Mecklenburg Cooperative Extension training facility, 1418 Armory Drive. ▪ The N.C. Department of Agriculture also offers a series of workshops on risk management for farmers. Classes are March 8 at the Union County Extension Center and March 10 at the Iredell County Extension Center. Free. Details: 919-707-3129.
