3 Charlotte products get awards

The N.C. Specialty Foods Association picked a list of foods around the state for awards at a recent meeting in Raleigh. Three from Charlotte were singled out: Bruce Julian’s Bloody Mary Rim Mix, Bloody Mary Mix and Picante Mango Hot Sauce all won their categories, while Julian’s Picante Pepper Hot Sauce was runner-up. Savory Moment’s Blu Cheese Spread and Glory Kitchen’s Umbrian Italian Blend was runner-up in the nuts category.

Cooking school in the mountains

If you need an excuse to head to the N.C. mountains, The Swag in Waynesville will hold three cooking school sessions May 22-24, July 17-20 and Nov. 6-9. Each one includes two cooking classes daily and a final picnic lunch. Details, including room rates: www.theswag.com.
