Cooking class: Taste of India at Blue
Chef Gene Briggs will teach several Indian classics in a class at Blue Restaurant, at College and Fifth streets, on June 11. The class is 11 a.m.-1 p.m. and covers Masala Channa, Butter Chicken, Rogan Josh and Gulab Jamun. Cost: $44.95. Reservations: 704-927-2583.
Beer on the pages at NoDa
Erik Lars Myers and Sarah Ficke will give a talk and sign copies of their new book, “North Carolina Craft Beer & Breweries,” ($19.95, John F. Blair) at 6 p.m. June 9 at NoDa Brewing, 2921 N. Tryon St. Myers is president of the N.C. Craft Brewers Guild and founder of Mystery Brewing Co. in Hillsborough; his wife, Sarah Ficke, is an English professor at Marymount University in Arlington, Va. Their book is a comprehensive guide to craft breweries around the state.
S.C. magazine searching for the South’s best
Garden & Gun, the Charleston-based Southern lifestyle magazine, has opened the entries for its annual Made in the South awards, a list of artisan products including foods, beverages, clothing, home products, crafts and outdoor items. The overall winner gets $10,000, and all the winners and runners-up get listed in the magazine. Judging the food category: TV host Alton Brown. Entry fee is $75, and the deadline is 11:59 p.m. July 15. Details: www.madeinthesouthawards.com.
