Do we need a home version of Deep-Fried Twinkies?

Will we even need to go to the state fair at all now?

Hostess Brands announced last week that it will save you a trip to your nearest state fair or fall festival: It’s has made its first foray into frozen foods, with the launch of frozen Deep Fried Twinkies.

According to the Associated Press, the new product is a result of a yearlong collaboration between Hostess and Walmart, which will be the only source for this one for the first three months. Selling for $4.76 for a package of seven, they’re battered and partially frozen, so you can finish them in an oven, toaster oven or frying pan. They’re cream-filled (of course – Twinkie) in vanilla or chocolate.

And even though you don’t want these numbers, the Associated Press shared them, so I will, too: A regular vanilla-filled Twinkie has 4 grams of fat and 130 calories; the new deep-fried version has 9 grams of fat and 220 calories.

Apparently, Walmart and Hostess are working on more collaborations. So: Brace yourself. Soon, we may have a funnel cake without actually having to expend the calories to walk down Speed Street to get it.
