Charlotte doctor attends White House forum on preventing antibiotic resistance
Dr. James Hunter, chief medical officer for Carolinas HealthCare System, was among invited guests at Tuesday’s White House Forum on Antibiotic Stewardship, where participants committed to slow the spread of antibiotic-resistant bacteria over the next five years.
Since 2009, hospitals in Carolinas HealthCare’s Antimicrobial Support Network have decreased the use of antibiotics by 20 to 30 percent, keeping patients on antibiotics fewer days and reducing the cost of antibiotics by more than 12 percent. Overuse of antibiotics is one of the primary causes of antibiotic resistance. Karen Garloch
