Food and Art

“Taste of the Mint” 4-7 p.m. Nov. 18 at the Mint Museum Uptown, 500 South Tryon St. Enjoy an evening of art and culinary delights with pairings of small plates and beverages from Halcyon, Flavors from the Earth and Mimosa Grill. Art Workshop

Janet Lasher, 2006 Alumna Affiliate Artist, will discuss specialized techniques for using other basic materials for embroidery. Workshop is 6-8 p.m. Nov. 19 at the McColl Center for Art + Innovation, 721 North Tryon St. Cost is $30 and base materials will be provided. To register: 704-332-5535.

Plato Reading Day

Take part in the 1st Annual Plato Reading Day 6-7 p.m. Nov. 20 at Books-a-Million, 14151 Steele Creek Road. Learn about this genius Greek philosopher and his teacher Socrates. His most famous dialogues will be read with snacks and coffee. Free.

Yoga Outdoors

“Yoga in the Preserve” 10-11:15 a.m. Nov. 21 at the McDowell Nature Center, 15222 York Road. Embrace the power of nature while practicing Vinyasa in the peaceful preserve. Prior yoga experience is helpful, but not necessary. Registration required: 704-588-5224.

Planning for the Future

“Living Longer, Living Smarter – Your Wishes” noon to 1:30 p.m. Nov. 24 at Independence Regional Library’s IB Community Room, 6000 Conference Drive. Planning for your future and preparing your family for the challenges that come with it can be challenging.
