HopeWay center names Daniel Brown chief executive officer
HopeWay, which recently announced plans to open a Charlotte residential center for adults with mental illness, has named Daniel Brown as its first chief executive officer.
For the past 11 years, Brown has been chief clinical officer at Albemarle-based Monarch, a not-for-profit organization that provides support to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, mental illness and substance abuse across the state.
He oversaw the creation and expansion of Monarch’s behavioral health division, which serves more than 31,000 people, with 500 employees, in 19 offices across North Carolina. Previously, he was a clinician and case manager for Piedmont Behavioral Healthcare in Cabarrus County and a therapeutic recreation specialist for Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center in Charlotte.
“Daniel has a proven track record of developing one of most clinically diverse, community-based behavioral health organizations in North Carolina,” said William F. Blue Jr., co-founder and chairman of the HopeWay Foundation.
Brown was raised in Albemarle and graduated from UNC Chapel Hill. He also has a master’s degree in social work from UNC Charlotte and is pursuing a second master’s degree in health administration from Pfeiffer University. He and his wife Christy have two daughters.
HopeWay is renovating buildings on a 12-acre campus that will provide residential and day treatment for adults with mental illness. It will have rooms for 36 residential clients and space for 50 additional day clients. Scheduled to open in summer 2016, it will have a staff of three psychiatrists and 20 therapists.
