Dr. Channing J. Der, a professor at the UNC Chapel Hill Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, will speak at 2 p.m. Jan. 23 about challenges and prospects for pancreatic cancer treatment.
He’ll speak at Morrison Regional Library, 7015 Morrison Blvd., as a guest of the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network’s Charlotte affiliate.
Der’s research led to the discovery of the RAS oncogene, the gene that mutates in nearly 100 percent of pancreatic cancers. He is now focused on developing therapies to target this gene and correct the mutation.
