Charlotte Observer reporters Tim Funk and Ames Alexander won a national prize last week from the Religion News Association.

Funk, who covers faith and values, and Alexander, an investigative reporter, won the group’s Cornell Award for Excellence in Religion Reporting at Mid-sized Newspapers.

Their winning entry included articles about evangelist Franklin Graham’s financial compensation (by Funk and Alexander); the rise of the “Nones,” or those with no religious affiliation, in the Bible Belt (by Funk); and two Charlotte families brought together by an organ donation (by Funk).
