Shalom Park will be site for Sunday’s Day of Jewish Learning

For the first time Sunday, Charlotte’s Jewish community will participate in the Global Day of Jewish Learning – an annual event involving more than 400 Jewish communities around the world.

This day of educational sessions, cultural experiences, social projects, prayer and music will revolve around a celebration of the Torah and other Jewish sacred texts. The free event, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., will be at Shalom Park, 5007 Providence Road.

Rabbis, scholars and community leaders from all streams of Judaism – including Orthodox, Conservative and Reform – are expected to be among those attending. Several local Jewish groups and synagogues are co-sponsoring the event.

Among planned features: Recreating a wedding from “Fiddler on the Roof” and creating your personal Western Wall, a reference to the last remnant of the ancient Jewish temple in Jerusalem and the holiest Jewish site in the world.
