Tibetan Buddhist monks will visit Charlotte on Wednesday
Seven Tibetan Buddhist monks from a refugee monastery in Dehra Dun, India, will appear in Charlotte on Wednesday night as part of their United States tour. The event is sponsored by the Insight Meditation Community of Charlotte.
Led by Venerable Kalsang Gyatso, these Tashi Kyil monks are from the Tibetan Buddhist Gelug Sect of the Dalai Lama, a Nobel Peace Prize winner. Like him, they are exiles from their native land, now controlled by China, and have been in India since 1967.
Starting at 7 p.m., at Park Road Baptist Church, 3900 Park Road, the monks will teach chants from the Tibetan tradition, speak of their lives as monks, and give a dharma talk on the Four Noble Truths of Buddhism.
There is no charge, though donations, called Dana, are appreciated. Tim Funk
