Methodist pastor in Charlotte falls short in voting to elect new bishops
The Rev. James Howell of Charlotte came up short Wednesday in voting to elect five new bishops of the United Methodist Church. He will remain senior pastor at Myers Park United Methodist Church.
In Lake Junaluska, 376 delegates to the denomination’s Southeastern Jurisdictional Conference voted to fill vacancies created by bishops retiring in conferences based in Charlotte, Louisville, Atlanta, Richmond and Macon. Ga.
Howell was one of 13 nominees for the five posts.
