New civil rights exhibit
The Supreme Court’s 1954 decision on Brown v. Board of Education was built on arguments of five cases, one of which happened in Clarendon County, S.C.. The S.C. Museum, in Columbia, profiles that case, Briggs v. Elliott, in an exhibit that opens Feb. 28. “ Courage: The Vision to End Segregation and the Guts to Fight for It” concerns Rev. J. A. De Laine and his neighbors who filed a lawsuit demanding the end of separate, unequal schools for their children. The exhibit, told through personal histories, artifacts and interactive components, will be on display through July 26. Details: www.scmuseum.org.
