Events mark 150th anniversary of Civil War’s end
April 11-19, the Fort Sumter–Fort Moultrie Historical Trust will mark the 1865 end of the Civil War with commemorative presentations in Charleston, where the conflict began in 1861. Free 150th anniversary events include patriotic concerts at Fort Moultrie & White Point Gardens (the Battery), lectures by historians at Dock Street Theater, a memorial service at Hampton Park, a dramatic nightly spotlighting of Fort Sumter on April 14, and the National Park Service hosting re-enactors at the fort, flag re-raising ceremonies and an exhibit at Liberty Square (details: www.nps.gov/fosu).
