Cruise ship meetups are becoming a trend for special cruise line celebrations, and not just for the biggest cruise lines like Carnival. Although Carnival has been propelling the trend, two premium cruise lines just announced historic meetups of their entire fleets in 2027 and 2028.

After celebrating its 50th birthday with a series of "Sailabrations" ship meetups at sea in 2022, Carnival is preparing to host more for America's 250th anniversary this summer and its 55th birthday in 2027. Special events like these offer loyal cruisers the chance to be part of milestone moments for their favorite cruise line and take part in synchronized deck parties as ships come alongside each other in rare ways that turn a cruise into something bigger.

And in the years ahead, more cruise travelers will have the chance to experience those moments with cruise lines that stand out for their distinctive styles of cruising.

Virgin Voyages to host ‘Sisters at Sea' ship meetup in 2027

Modern, adults-only cruise line Virgin Voyages is bringing its fleet of four ladyships together for the first time for the brand's largest celebration at sea to date on Feb. 16, 2027. A cruise line renowned for its festival-like lineup of shows and parties, Virgin Voyages is staging its biggest event yet - a bold "Sisters at Sea" fleet meetup in the Caribbean to celebrate its community of loyal "Sailors" and give them a first look at the brand's future plans.

"There are voyages, and then there are moments that are so epic they become lifelong memories. Sisters at Sea is the latter, and we have so much planned to blow your mind and make you laugh and cry with joy. When those four ships are on the water together, and we hear the collective cheers from every Crew member and Sailor, it will be proof that nothing is more powerful than the community that loves and supports you and that we are better together. If you are a part of our brand history, we invite you back to celebrate this incredible moment with us," Virgin Voyages Chief Marketing Officer Nathan Rosenberg said in a press release.

Cunard to bring four Queens together for first time in 2028

Storied luxury British cruise line Cunard is also planning a special four-ship fleet gathering, which will bring its four Queens together for the first time. On May 16, 2028, Queen Mary 2, Queen Elizabeth, Queen Victoria, and Queen Anne will assemble on the River Mersey in Liverpool, England - returning home to the city where Cunard was founded in 1840.

The meetup of the Queens will bring a major celebration to Liverpool's waterfront, coinciding with special events marking 20 years since Liverpool was named European Capital of Culture.

"Bringing our four Queens together on the Mersey for the first time will be a rare and incredibly special moment for Cunard. Liverpool is where our story began, and returning with the full fleet is a powerful celebration of that bond. It will be an unforgettable day for our guests, for the city, and for everyone who comes together to enjoy the spectacle from the shore," Cunard President Katie McAlister said in a press release.

Cruise travelers can join the historic celebration through a series of specially designed Four Queens Celebration voyages across the Cunard fleet:

  • Queen Mary 2 will offer her first-ever transatlantic crossing from New York to Liverpool.
  • Queen Anne will offer an overnight stay in Liverpool as she begins her 2028 season in Scandinavia and Northern Europe.
  • Queen Elizabeth will sail from Southampton, England to Le Havre, France before joining the River Mersey celebration.
  • Queen Victoria will arrive in Liverpool following a scenic voyage around the British Isles, visiting Scotland, Ireland, Northern Ireland, and Wales.
