Kimpton Shorebreak Huntington Beach Review: Is It Worth It for a Short Beach Getaway?

Kimpton Shorebreak made one night in Huntington Beach feel like a full weekend.

It's lively, social and relaxed in a way that makes the hotel part of the getaway.

My friend and I wanted a quick beach getaway that felt fun from the minute we arrived. Kimpton Shorebreak gave us plenty to do right at the hotel, plus an easy location across Pacific Coast Highway from the beach, close to the pier, Main Street, restaurants and the coastal bike path.

Between the fire pits, s'mores kits, live music, table games, wine-and-beer social hour, beach bikes, beach gear and gym with a climbing wall, there was always something easy to do without overplanning.

That made one night in Huntington Beach feel much longer than one night. We rode bikes along the ocean, sat by the fire pits, listened to music, borrowed beach gear, walked to dinner and kept the trip going on checkout day because the amenities were still available after we packed up.

Yep. Kimpton Shorebreak is worth it if you take advantage of everything included and stretch the stay all the way through checkout day.

The value is in the extras. Bikes, beach chairs, towels, umbrellas, morning coffee, wine hour, fire pits, games and a real fitness center all add up. On checkout day, we packed up, but kept the trip going. That extra day of beach gear, bikes and hangout space made a one-night stay feel much bigger.

It is a strong pick for pet owners because there are no extra pet fees. Families get a playful hotel without it feeling like a kid zone, thanks to ping pong, foosball, s'mores and a climbing wall in the gym. Solo travelers get beach walks, quiet places to work and enough relaxed energy around the hotel to feel comfortable hanging out.

And the location works for everyone. Kimpton Shorebreak is in the middle of Huntington Beach, close to the sand, the pier, Main Street, restaurants and the coastal bike path.

Kimpton Shorebreak is a strong fit for:

  • Couples who want a fun, walkable beach weekend.
  • Friends or girlfriend getaways where the goal is connection, beach time and ease.
  • Pet owners who want a genuinely pet-friendly hotel near the beach.
  • Travelers using IHG One Rewards who want a boutique-feeling hotel within a major loyalty program.
  • Short-stay travelers who want the location and amenities to do a lot of the work.

It is probably not the best choice for travelers looking for a quiet, tucked-away luxury resort or a big pool-centered property. The reason to stay here is Huntington Beach itself: the sand, the pier, the bike path, the restaurants and the easy surf-town rhythm right outside the door.

My room felt calm and comfortable for a quick beach stay. One of the best details was the oversized tub with bath salts. I used it on checkout morning, which turned the last few hours of the stay into actual relaxation instead of just packing and leaving.

For travelers who want more space, Kimpton Shorebreak also has suites. The hotel says its resort suites include private living rooms, and some specialty suites offer oceanfront or pier-view layouts.

Kimpton Shorebreak is extremely close to the beach. It is located on Pacific Coast Highway, across from the sand and within sight of the Huntington Beach Pier area.

That location is the hotel's biggest selling point. You can walk to the beach, walk to Main Street, walk to meals and get on a bike for the beach path without turning the day into a transportation project.

Huntington Beach is a great biking destination because the path runs along the coast, rewarding you with wide-open ocean views along the way. You do not have to ride far for it to feel worthwhile.

What Amenities Are Included?

Kimpton Shorebreak's amenities are a major part of the stay. According to the hotel, amenities include complimentary morning coffee and tea, a hosted evening wine hour, beach chairs, towels, umbrellas, beach cruisers, a 24-hour fitness center with climbing wall and beach gear.

For our trip, we used the hotel bikes to ride the Huntington Beach bike path for a couple of hours. It was active without feeling like a workout plan, which is exactly the right energy for a beach getaway.

The hotel also offers daily housekeeping, an on-site restaurant, Wi-Fi, on-site parking, fitness access and a smoke-free setting. EAch room comes with a beach cooler, vinyl record player (albums are available in the lobby), a noise machine, charging clock and a giant bathtub with bath salts.

Use Checkout Day Better

The Kimpton Shorebreak let us use the amenities on checkout day which made it feel like a longer trip than one overnight. So instead of packing up and heading straight home, we got one more full day of ocean air before leaving.

I made full use of the morning, starting with yoga and breakfast. Then I returned to the room and soaked in the oversized tub with the bath salts that were provided. After that, we used the hotel bikes to ride along the Huntington Beach bike path for a couple of hours.

After returning the bikes, we checked our bags at the desk and headed to lunch.

Dining at Kimpton Shorebreak

Kimpton Shorebreak has one on-site restaurant, Pacific Hideaway. We did not eat there but we did see several people hanging out at the bar and doing work on the outside deck. This is the place for remote workers.

That flexibility is part of the appeal. You can use the hotel as home base and decide how much structure you want.
