Family Rail Days is on track for June 11-12 in Spencer

June 11-12, the N.C. Transportation Museum at Spencer will hold its Family Rail Days Festival. You can ride in classic coaches pulled by antique diesel engines. Three railroad clubs will set up model sets on the grounds. Or view the festival from the cupola of a caboose train. Special activities for kids include a model train play table and take-home crafts. Hours: 9 a.m.-5 p.m. next Saturday, noon-5 p.m. June 12.

Tickets - $10/advance, $12/door; 2 and younger, free - include unlimited train rides and activities. The museum complex, on 57 acres at 411 S. Salisbury Ave., features 13 buildings including a restored roundhouse and exhibits on early transportation. Details: 704-636-2889; www.nctrans.org.

Craft tour in southwest Virginia, June 10-15

June 10-June 15, explore the craft scene of southwest Virginia on the Floyd Artisan Trail Tour - a week-long tour featuring over 60 sites across Floyd County with activities at artisan home studios; galleries and shops; wineries; farms and farm markets; and restaurant and lodging sites.
