SOUTHPORT Dec. 12-13

The quaint coastal town of Southport features two holiday processions next weekend – one on land, one on water. At 6:30 p.m. Friday, the Fire Engine Parade kicks off with marching bands, local floats and classic cars. The grand marshal this year: Mimi Kirkland, the young, Raleigh-born actress who played Lexie in the movie “Safe Haven.” At 7 p.m. Saturday, the two-hour Christmas Flotilla features decorated boats heading from Southport Marina and Old Yacht Basin to Kingsley Park.
