AT&T is laying off around 80 employees at one of the telecommunications company’s offices in Charlotte, according to people familiar with the matter.

AT&T spokesman Josh Gelinas said AT&T is consolidating work done at one of its Charlotte facilities into another company location. He would not say how many employees were affected.

“Affected employees will be able to apply for other company positions, and we’ll try to find other jobs for as many as possible,” Gelinas said.

He said the company remains committed to North Carolina and continues to hire in the state.

“We have hired more than 800 employees in the state through August of this year, and we’re currently hiring more than 180 across the state,” he said.
