Furniture retailer to move headquarters to Fort Mill, employ 200

Broad River Furniture, a home furnishings retailer, is establishing a new corporate campus and distribution center in the Lakemont Business Park in Fort Mill.

The company is expected to invest $12.6 million and employ 200 people.

Established in 2003 in Pineville, N.C., Broad River Furniture is one of the largest and fastest-growing Ashley Furniture HomeStore licensees in the Carolinas and Georgia, operating 16 Ashley stores and one Ashley Furniture HomeStore outlet.

The company operates in three states and employs more than 500 full-time workers.

The company will build a 174,000-square-foot facility in the Lakemont Business Park. The facility is expected to be open by November, allowing Broad River Furniture to bring together employees from its current corporate offices and separate distribution center in Charlotte.

The Coordinating Council for Economic Development has approved job development credits related to the project. The company is negotiating an agreement with York County to pay a fee instead of property taxes. For more information on Broad River Furniture, visit www.broadriverfurniture.com.

“Fort Mill is the ideal location for our new campus,” Jonathan Ishee, Broad River Furniture’s chief executive officer, said in a news release.

“Along with our new cross-dock facility in Spartanburg, this new location will accommodate our growth to about two and a half times our current volume, and we will finally have all of our corporate associates together in one location,” Ishee said.

A news release Tuesday morning did not include details on how to apply for a job with Broad River Furniture.
