Piedmont Natural Gas sets cold-weather record
Charlotte-based Piedmont Natural Gas delivered a record volume of gas in February, which was the coldest in 37 years in Piedmont’s three-state territory.
The 52.9 million dekatherms of gas delivered was the highest monthly volume for a February in Piedmont’s 65-year history. It was 22 percent higher than the previous February record, set in 2013.
A dekatherm is a unit of energy equal to 1 million British thermal units.
Piedmont set a single-day record on Feb. 19, when it delivered 2.6 million dekatherms. Piedmont serves more than one million customers in the Carolinas and Tennessee.
