It isn’t easy for many people to be good at fundraising, but for Nick Maglosky, it’s a big part of his job.
Maglosky, 36, is CEO of ecomdash, an e-commerce software company. Its product helps keep small and midsize businesses from overselling stock by tracking inventory sold on online marketplaces such as Amazon, eBay and Etsy.
The company just completed a $1.2 million fundraising round to advance its technology.
His strategy for finding investors?
“I have become a nimble networker. I think if you’re a halfway likeable person, within six to nine months, you can meet half the people in Charlotte when it comes to investors. Fundraising in Charlotte is certainly challenging, but we’re fortunate to have raised $1.2 million.”
Ecomdash recently celebrated another victory, winning two IT-oLogy Blue Diamond Awards for IT achievements, including one called the “Cool Innovator” award.
Why that one? “The founders really set out to have an affordable, all-in-one tool that could truly help small and medium-sized businesses. I think that’s what’s really cool about it,” Maglosky said.
“We’re a small business, and we’re trying to make our dream a reality … if we can help (customers) scale their businesses and be successful, to us that feels kind of good.”

Favorite tech stuff: I get made fun of by my peers and my wife because I’m a tech CEO who uses a BlackBerry.
On making choices: Talk to advisers, get a few nuggets from that person, and then collectively you make the best decision on your own.
Networking: I try to always have lunches, coffees on the calendar. A lot of people, to some degree, ignore networking. It’s such a huge factor.
My workspace is: Neat and organized.
Staying on task: I write everything on my calendar.
One word to describe your work habits: Consistent.
Work rules: If I say I’m going to do something, I’m going to do it. Getting back to an employee, following up with an investor. My first boss I ever had taught me that. He’s still a great mentor to this day.
Best advice I’ve ever received: I don’t know who said it: Don’t let success go to your head and failure go to your heart.
Family influence: My grandpa was a super organized, on-top-of-it kind of person. I think I inherited some of those genes.
