Charlotte-based tech firm hires first chief financial officer

Charlotte-based tech company SignUpGenius has hired Jeff Richek as its first chief financial officer amid continued growth.

SignUpGenius is an online sign-up service for event and volunteer management. An increased demand for its services has driven recent hiring, spokeswoman Ashley Kaufman said, and its executive team has doubled in 2017.

The private company’s revenue grew by 63 percent in 2016, according to a press release, although it did not provide the revenue figure. More than 66 million unique users visited the site last year to plan 2.3 million events, it said.

“Because things have changed so quickly, we’ve outpaced our expected hiring for this year,” Kaufman said.

Angel Rutledge, chief operating officer and chief marketing officer, handled financial responsibilities before Richek’s hiring, Kaufman said. Richek was previously the vice president of finance at Bold, a software company that provides employment-related tools for companies and job seekers.

SignUpGenius was founded in 2008 and employs 32, most in its Charlotte headquarters. It ranked 14th on the 2017 list of Best Employers in North Carolina among small and mid-size companies, according to the Best Companies Group.
