There’s a new office building under construction near uptown Charlotte
Construction crews have broken ground on a new office building near uptown: The Refinery, at 1213 W. Morehead St.
The five-story, 107,000-square-foot building is just outside uptown, adjacent to Interstate 277. A company affiliated with Insite Properties, the developer, bought the site in 2014 for $1.5 million, real estate records show.
The building is being developed on a speculative basis, meaning no tenants have been signed. It’s in a fast-changing part of Charlotte, with numerous other residential developments, such as a 287-unit apartment building, underway nearby. There’s little office space in the immediate area, however.
The building will feature an “industrial modern” aesthetic and creative office space, Insite executives said.
“The Refinery will offer an adaptive re-use feel with the features and amenities of brand new construction,” said Jay Blanton, founder and managing principal of Insite.
JLL is leasing the office space, while the Nichols Company is leasing ground-floor space for shops or restaurants. BB+M Architecture is the architect, LandDesign is the project’s civil engineer and Edifice Construction is the general contractor.
The building is scheduled for completion in fall 2018.
