HR consulting firm to lay off dozens in Charlotte

Aon Hewitt will soon close an office in Charlotte, a move that will result in the loss of 76 full-time jobs.

The Illinois consulting and HR outsourcing firm said in a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN) notice that it will permanently close its Retiree Health Solutions Sales & Service Center at 7201 Hewitt Associates Dr. on March 9.

Layoffs will begin that day, Aon said in its WARN. Under federal law, companies must file WARN notices when they make mass layoffs, close plants and change ownership.

“We regularly review our operational model to ensure we are delivering the most efficient levels of service and performance,” the company said in an email to the Observer.

“We continue to have a strong presence in Charlotte and expect to grow our business in the region over the next several years.”

All affected employees have been notified, Aon said.

Aon said it employs approximately 126 other workers in Charlotte.
