The Better Business Bureau’s five worst businesses in Charlotte – which received “F” grades for their lack of response to customer complaints – range from a moving company to carpet cleaning services.

When complaints are opened against a business, everything submitted by the customer is then forwarded on to the business, which is given the opportunity to respond, according to BBB. Once the business responds, the consumer has the chance to respond with a rebuttal. When complaints are closed, they are marked as unanswered if the business never responded, unresolved if the business responded but never follows through with the agreement, or resolved or answered.

In 2017, BBB worked to resolve close to 15,000 complaints in the Southern Piedmont and Western North Carolina area.

“Most businesses work closely with BBB to resolve complaints and last year, BBB was able to resolve 92 percent of consumer complaints,” BBB said in a news release. “Unfortunately, there are some businesses that do not value that level of customer service.”

The Charlotte Observer reached out to the five companies and left messages for a response to the BBB rankings, but had not heard back from a representative by the time of publication.

▪ Your Moving Company

The company did not deliver within the agreed upon time and customers waited months for items in some cases, according to BBB complaints. There were 79 total consumer complaints to date about Your Moving Company and 57 of those were unanswered or unresolved in 2017, according to BBB.

▪  Comprehensive Carpet Cleaning

Comprehensive Carpet Cleaning had no-show appointments, unapproved upcharges and inadequate or incomplete cleanings, complaints filed with BBB allege. There were 42 total consumer complaints to date, 14 of which were unanswered or unresolved.

▪ Professional Appliance Service

The business cashed deposit checks but did not return to complete service, according to BBB. In addition, the BBB’s website says that complaints say the company failed to provide needed repairs after being paid to do so or did not repair the appliances properly and failed to return to fix it. There were 32 total consumer complaints to date, 12 of which were unanswered or unresolved in 2017.

▪ Cabinet Door World

The business delayed shipment and then did not respond about a revised timeline, according to the BBB. Customers also said materials were badly damaged when they arrived. There were 65 total consumer complaints to date, 10 of which were unanswered or unresolved in 2017.

▪  Design Decks and Porches

Complaints say that the company failed to honor a contract or agreement or complete services after receiving payment, according to BBB.
