Charlotte-based Kure appoints Anthony Shriver to board

Charlotte-based Kure Corp., a private company that specializes in vaporizing pens, e-juices and related accessories, has named Anthony Kennedy Shriver to its board of directors.

Shriver, the nephew of President John Kennedy, is the chairman and CEO of Best Buddies International, a nonprofit organization focused on providing employment and social opportunities to adults and children with disabilities.

According to a statement from Kure Tuesday, Shriver is a childhood friend of Martin Sumichrast, a Charlotte-based Kure board member and vice chairman and co-founder of Siskey Capital, the Charlotte private equity firm that’s lead investor in Kure.

“(Shriver) will be an invaluable asset to the growth of the company as we continue to rapidly grow into a global brand and industry leader in the vape space,” Sumichrast said.

Shriver’s appointment is effective May 1, the company said.

Kure has started expanding its vape shops throughout the U.S. and currently has two in the Charlotte area – one in NoDa and one in Gastonia. Kure has three other stores under construction in the Charlotte area and operates another in Boca Raton, Fla.
