One of the biggest employers in Charlotte plans another minimum wage boost
Atrium Health announced Thursday it raised its minimum wage to $13.50 per hour in the Charlotte area.
That’s 86% higher than North Carolina’s minimum wage requirement of $7.25.
The health care system is raising its minimum wage by $1, up from $12.50 per hour, a change that impacts more than 10,000 employees, Atrium said in a statement.
Workers will see the change in their next paycheck, Atrium spokesman Chris Berger said.
Atrium plans to raise its minimum wage to $15 per hour in 2021, the hospital system said in a statement. The organization has raised its minimum wage in Charlotte more than $6 from its 2012 minimum wage of $7.25.
“This increase will positively impact more than 10,000 of our colleagues — and as the largest employer in the region, it will also help enhance the economic growth and mobility of the communities we serve,” Atrium Health CEO Eugene Woods said in a statement.
Atrium, Charlotte’s largest hospital system, is also one of the biggest employers in the area, with 35,000 workers.
The minimum wage increase is an investment of over $10.8 million this year, Atrium said.
Rival hospital system Novant Health has increased minimum wage in the last several years too, announcing an increase to $12.50 per hour in 2018.
