Tax help company TurboTax raises rates just as most people start to file
TurboTax, the online tax help company, is raising its rates just as most people start to file.
In an email addressed to “Dear Valued Customer” on Saturday, the TurboTax Online Team notified recipients that the price of its online products will increase March 1.
“If you haven’t completed or filed your return yet, we encourage you to file your taxes before prices go up,” the letter reads. “You need to act fast — the cost for TurboTax Online Deluxe, Premier, Self-Employed federal products, TurboTax Live, as well as State products, will go up after February 29, 2020.”
The Charlotte Observer obtained a copy of the letter, which urges its 32 million tax filers to sign in with their user ID “and finish your return today.”
The Turbo Tax site shows prices about to jump from $40 to $60 for its most popular Deluxe service, from $70 to $90 for its Premier service, and $90 to $120 for its Self-Employed option.
Money magazine, which first reported the planned increases on Feb. 13, also reported how TurboTax Online, H&R Block and other popular national tax preparers have continued to increase their rates over the years.
