Bojangles loses apostrophe in its name, gains Dale Jr. partnership, in rebrand

The Charlotte-based chicken and biscuits chain Bojangles is getting a bit of a makeover.

Bojangles, which was founded in Charlotte in 1977, is dropping the apostrophe from the end of its name, according to a statement Monday from the fast food chain about its rebranding efforts. The new logo is the same otherwise.

In addition, a video released Monday announced a partnership with 26-time NASCAR Cup Series winner Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Earnhardt, who is from Kannapolis, will also be featuring the brand on his social media accounts. It’s the first time the company has featured a celebrity in its advertising proclaim the slogan, “It’s Bo time,” Bojangles said.

“Bojangles and I go way back, including sharing Carolina roots,” Earnhardt said in a statement. “We’re even about the same age.”

Bojangles has approximately 750 restaurants in 11 states, according to the company. There are 319 locations in North Carolina, 33 of which are in Charlotte.

Last year, New York investment firms Durational Capital Management and The Jordan Company bought Bojangles and took the publicly traded company private.
