Pineville-based Carolina Cutlery Service merges with Chicago firm

Pineville-based Carolina Cutlery Service has completed its merger with Cozzini Bros., which is based just outside Chicago. The combined company will operate under the Cozzini Bros. name.

According to a statement from Cozzini this week, Carolina Cutlery will maintain its existing operations and employees in Pineville, as well as its distribution centers throughout the Carolinas. The merger will expand Cozzini’s footprint into the mid-Atlantic region.

Terms of the deal were not immediately available.

Joe Povinelli, co-founder and president of Carolina Cutlery, will act as mid-Atlantic regional general manager at the merged company.

“I am excited to be part of the largest, most organized, and advanced sharpening company in the U.S. while keeping our regional offices and employees close in the Carolinas,” Povinelli said.

The local company specializes in knife sharpening rental and exchange services and is operated by the Povinelli family, which has been in the knife-sharpening business since 1890, according to the statement.

Cozzini Bros. is the largest commercial knife sharpening company in the U.S. and provides knife exchange, services and kitchen supplies to clients including restaurants, grocery stores and other food service institutions.
