The newest amenity for the thousands of apartment dwellers moving to uptown Charlotte: a veterinarian.

An animal clinic called VetweRx will move into more than 3,000 square feet of retail space on the bottom floor of luxury-apartment tower SkyHouse Uptown’s six-story garage, Grubb Properties announced Thursday.

Grubb, one of the partners involved with the project at North Tryon and Tenth streets, said the clinic would be uptown’s first veterinarian. The developer said bringing in Denver-based VetweRx underscores Grubb’s commitment to making the 336-unit, 24-story tower pet-friendly.

The release said the site’s “SkyPark,” which will crown the six-story garage, will feature dog parks for both small and large canines as well as a dog wash for owners to preen their pooches.

“VetweRx is a great fit for SkyHouse, providing a unique and convenient service to residents as well as others who live and work in the community,” said Jonathan Nance, senior vice president of investments at Grubb Properties.

Emily Ethridge, corporate communications manager for Grubb, said the veterinarian is expected to open in the fourth quarter of this year. The two street-level retail spaces in the tower itself haven’t been leased yet, she said.
