Atrium Health has completed a deal to combine with Advocate Aurora Health, a healthcare system based in the Midwest, but its familiar name will remain in the Charlotte region and and other existing hospital and care sites.
The merger, announced on Friday, made the hospital the fifth-largest nonprofit integrated health system in the nation, with more than 150,000 employees at 67 hospitals and more than 1,000 sites of care, The Charlotte Observer reported.

Atrium Health operates 40 hospitals in the Southeast, including nine in Charlotte. The health system also manages more than 1,400 care locations in the Carolinas, Alabama and Georgia.
Where is Atrium Health based?
Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte is Atrium’s flagship hospital.
It is the region’s only Level 1 trauma center and is the home of the Levine Cancer Institute, Carolinas Rehabilitation and Levine Children’s Hospital.
